Red Wines
There is a French red to suit every occasion, meal and budget so to find the wine that’s right for you, just look for the region that corresponds to your favourite grape.

France’s vast experience in producing wines leads to differt expressions of the grape varieties to those you might find in other regions of the world, so you can discover exciting variations in taste.
White Wines
French wines are easier to understand than you may think; they're usually just classified by region instead of grape varieties.

There is a wide array of French white wines allowing you to try something different every time you fancy a glass. To find the wine that's right for you, just look for the region that corresponds to your favourite grape.
Rosé Wines
All French rosés are very food friendly and go well with seafood, simple white fish dishes or charcuterie. There are superb rosés from lots of different regions such as the delicate pinks from the Loire; ripe, fresh from the Rhône; juicy styles from Bordeaux and the classic rosés of Provence. Rosés must be drunk well-chilled. Have a look at the different grape varieties to choose the rosé that would suit you best!
Sweet Wines
France produces some excellent sweet wines, often made by a process called noble rot, which involves letting grapes decay on the vines to concentrate the sugar.

From Sauternes in the Bordeaux region, to Coteaux du Layon in the Loire, and even including a red sweetie called Maury in the South, try these wines not just with pudding or rich mushroom pâté, but as an aperitif before the meal or as an alternative to red wine with the cheese board.
Sparkling Wines
Everyone's heard of Champagne, but don't miss the country's other fine sparklers, like the crémants of Alsace, Burgundy (Bourgogne), Bordeaux, Jura and Limoux. Track down the appley, softly frothy Clairette de Die, fresh sparkling Saumur and other bottles of French fizz – there's something for everyone!
